Issues That Matter

Chris believes that government spending is out of control. Pork-barrel projects and the special interests rule Washington – and this must change. As our Congressman, Chris will fight to:

• Reel in out-of-control earmarks that are the root cause of pork barrel spending
• Force Washington to live within its means by enacting a Balanced Budget Amendment
• Cut the size of the federal bureaucracy through attrition and not filling unused positions
• Encourage more partnerships with the private sector.

Chris knows that strong businesses drive our economy. But companies cannot buy new equipment and small businesses cannot create new jobs under a heavy burden of taxes, fees and unnecessary regulations. As our Congressman, Chris will fight to:

• Create a “Gas Tax Holiday” to help at the pump this summer
• Make President Bush’s tax cuts permanent
• End the double taxation of savings by eliminating the capital gains tax
• Allow businesses to fully deduct machinery and equipment the same year purchased.
• Abolish the Alternative Minimum Tax (AMT)
• Allow families and the self-employed to deduct the full cost of health care premiums.

Chris knows that our Nation is built of immigrants – those who risked much to seek a better life in America. Today, those crossing our borders illegally threaten our economy by burdening our healthcare system and, in some cases, our national security.

Unfortunately, many in Congress believe the answer is amnesty – a path to citizenship paved with our tax dollars. Granting amnesty to over 12 million illegal immigrants would be devastating to our country’s future. It must be stopped!

Chris’ plan to end illegal immigration starts with the border protection laws that are on the books today. With these laws as the centerpiece of a renewed border security plan for our country, we should also do the following:

• Make expedited removal of captured illegal aliens mandatory – no “Catch and Release”
• Deploy the military along the Mexican border and build a permanent border fence where practical
• Use military technology such as drones and satellites to patrol borders where necessary
• Verify immigrant worker eligibility before employment and prosecute those who knowingly hire illegals
• Prohibit those here illegally from accessing Social Security benefits
• Limit birthright citizenship to the children of United States citizens and legal permanent residents
• Withhold certain federal funds to states that allow illegal immigrants to get drivers’ licenses
• Withhold federal grants from sanctuary cities

By securing our borders first, forcing businesses to abide by stringent employment regulations, and stopping government handouts, we can end illegal immigration as we know it today.

But many in Washington believe we should do nothing to stop illegals from entering our country. To be sure, Nancy Pelosi, MoveOn.org, and the liberal “drive-by” media will win the battle to secure our borders if we fail to elect a Congressman with the backbone to stand up to them.

Chris Gorman will stand up to them and fight to protect us!

Chris is keenly aware that high gas and diesel prices raise the costs of nearly everything we need in our daily lives. We can no longer allow our economic and national security to be tied to the price of oil. Old ideas and tired rhetoric will not help us. Only a comprehensive approach – one built around new ideas and new technologies – will work. As our Congressman Chris will fight to:

• Make us energy independent from foreign sources of oil
• Open more of Alaska’s North Slope (ANWR) to exploration and production
• Promote greater use of non-traditional sources of energy such as clean coal, oil sands, and oil shale
• Increase the use of nuclear energy across the country
• Promote the use of Louisiana sugar cane – instead of more corn – in the production of ethanol
• Encourage the use of compressed natural gas (CNG) by our city busses and other government vehicles
• Explore and produce more American crude oil and natural gas off our Atlantic and Pacific coasts – like we’ve done along the Gulf Coast for decades.

As a native of the Fourth Congressional District, Chris is a product of traditional family values. Hard work, dedication to family and respect for the land were instilled in Chris from an early age. As our Congressman Chris will fight to:

• Protect the institution of marriage between one man and one woman
• End abortions in our country. Chris is 100% pro-life.
• Protect our Second Amendment rights to keep and bear arms
• Impeach federal judges who legislate from the bench
• Defend the rights of parents to educate their children.

Chris fully supports our men and women in uniform – wherever they are deployed. And he believes that winning the War on Terror should be our number one global concern. As our Congressman, Chris will fight to:

• Keep Barksdale Air Force Base and Fort Polk fully funded, fully staffed and fully engaged in the War On Terror
• Bring our troops home from Iraq and Afghanistan with dignity once their job is complete
• Increase the pay and benefits for our military families
• Make Barksdale the permanent home of the new “Cyber Command” Unit
• Bring another Brigade to Fort Polk
• Pass a constitutional amendment protecting our Stars and Stripes from desecration.
